BLUEFIELD – The Bluefield College women's volleyball team battled against one of the Appalachian Athletic Conference's top teams, the Reinhardt University Eagles, and fell just short of victory as the heart pounding game went to five sets.
The Rams claimed the first set 25-18. BC started strong and dazed the Eagles who scrambled to catch up with 18 points. The second had the Rams playing on their heels and BC fell 13-25.
After a pep talk from Coach Buddy Gallemore, the Rams picked up the pace but still fell short in the third, 18-25. The fourth set showed a lot of intensity and the Rams came out ahead 25-22.
Going into the fifth set the excitement was strong as both teams fought point for point. They switched sides at 6-8 in favor of the Eagles. The Rams didn't stay down long as they quickly tallied points bringing them to 14-12 match point. The Eagles didn't give up and were able to take the next four points winning the fifth set 16-14.
The Rams were led by Ellen Johnson and Lexie Mocarski in kills. Johnson tallied 16, with Mocarski just behind her with 14. Camry McCroskey, the setter, tallied 42 assists. Lexie Austin played strong in the middle with a total of five blocks and two aces. Paige Fisher, the libero for the Rams, fought to keep the game alive numerous times as she tallied 17 digs.
The Rams will be traveling to Montreat College on Sept. 19, followed by their next home game on Sept. 22 against Brenau University.
