Box Score 3 LAURINBURG, N.C. - The Bluefield College baseball team claimed a doubleheader sweep of St. Andrews University, Saturday and took two of three games over the weekend from the homestanding Knights.
After falling 7-4 on Friday, the Rams won 5-0 and 10-6 Saturday afternoon to claim their first two Appalachian Athletic Conference wins of the season.
Friday, St. Andrews opened a 6-0 lead before the Rams scored late.
Erik Williams had three hits for BC, as did
Bobby Mena.
Jose Perez and
Jordan Jackson had two hits each.
Daniel Ruiz pitched seven innings and suffered the loss for BC. He struck out five and walked one.
In Saturday's opener
Christian Sinnott pitched a complete game shutout. Sinnott scattered seven hits, struck out eight and walked three. At the plate
Joey Smith led Bluefield as he was 2-for-3.
In the series finale the Rams scored three runs in each the first and second innings to take a 6-2 lead and they never looked back.
Chaz Miller got the win. He started and worked four-and-two third innings. He struck out six batters and walked one.
Edgar Reyes pitched the final two-and-a-third innings for Bluefield. He allowed one hit and struck out a batter.
James Rangel was 2-for-3 with a home run. Williams was also 2-for-three.
Bluefield is now 13-8 overall and 2-4 in the AAC. Weather permitting the Rams will play a doubleheader, Wednesday, March 11 at Shawnee State in Portsmouth, Ohio. The Rams return home for a series next Friday and Saturday against AAC foe Union at Bowen Field.
