Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Two days after the regularly-scheduled event, the Bluefield College Rams and Campell University Camels battled on the gridiron after Thursday night's contest was postponed due to lightning. Saturday afternoon at Barker-Lane Stadium at Ed Gore Field, the homestanding Camels downed the Rams 59-7 in what was called "The Bowman Bowl."
Dan Bowman was a Bluefield College alumus and former Dean of Students who passed away from cancer last year. Bowman's brother is a professor at Campell University. Scholarships have been established at both schools in honor of Dan Bowman and at halftime of Saturday's contest, Bluefield College President Dr. David Olive joined with the President of Campbell University and the Bowman family to honor Dan. At the ceremony both schools were presented checks of $25,000.
On the field the Rams had tough going from the outset. After stopping the Camels on their first possession BC was unable to move the ball and punted to CU. Trey Saunders returned the kick 55 yards for the score and 2:42 seconds into the game the home team took the lead and never looked back.
CU led 14-0 after one quarter, 42-0 at halftime and 52-0 after three periods.
The Rams avoided the shutout when Alex Martin rushed seven yards for a score with 4:39 left in the game. Ben Brown's extra point was good.
One positive He kicked eight times and had a long of 76 yards.
The Rams return to action Saturday in Montgomery, Ala., against Faulkner University, a Mid-South Conference West opponent.
