Box Score 3 BLUEFIELD, Va. - The Bluefield College Rams took two of three games from the Montreat Cavaliers in Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball action over the weekend at Bowen Field. The Rams took Saturday's opening game 4-0, dropped Sunday's twinbill opener 3-2, then claimed victory in the series finale.
Thomas Huddleston tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out 12 Montreat batters to spark Bluefield to victory in the series opener Saturday night. Huddleston got help at the plate from
Ryan Lawson who was 2-for-4.
Garrett Schilling,
Pat Gough,
Dylan Lowenstein and
Nolan Soto each had a run batted in.
Sunday featured an afternoon doubleheader and it was Montreat who eked out a win in the opener 3-2. The Cavaliers scored all their runs in the top of the fourth. The Rams added single runs in the fourth and sixth but could not pull closer. Lowenstein was 3-for-3 for Bluefield.
Christian Sinnott pitched a complete game five hitter, but suffered the loss.
Sunday's nightcap went to Bluefield 7-2. The Rams jumped ahead with three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Soto was 3-for-3,
Nick Ratliff 2-for-3 with two RBIs and
Erik Williams was 2-for-4.
Daniel Ruiz, Bluefield's starter on the mound, got the win as he pitched 4-1/3 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with a walk.
The Rams begin the final two weeks of the season with a 23-24 overall record, 7-14 in the AAC. Shawnee State is up next for a nine inning game Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Bowen Field, followed by a single game against crosstown rival Bluefield State on Wednesday at 6:00. The home schedule comes to a close next Saturday and Sunday as Reinhardt visits for a three-game series. The Rams end the regular season with a series at Union on April 30-May 1.
