Box Score 2 WEST POINT, Ga. – An old song has the lyrics, "Don't be sad, two out of three ain't bad." In the case of the Bluefield College baseball team, two out of three was good as the Rams won two of three games against AAC foe Point University over the weekend in Western Georgia.
The teams opened with a doubleheader Friday and the Rams claimed game one 7-5. Thomas Huddleston took the win for BC, his second straight. Huddleston threw five innings of four-hit baseball, allowed three runs and struck out six. Daniel Ruiz, the fourth Rams pitcher of the game, earned the save.
Point pitchers scattered six hits and Bluefield's Dallas Bacon knocked in a pair of runs.
Friday's nightcap saw the home nine claim an 8-3 win. Bacon led Bluefield at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double. Nolan Soto's bases loaded, bases clearing double in the seventh provided the Rams' only runs of the game. Again Point pitchers held down BC batters, allowing only five hits.
Michael Carpenter suffered the loss, working five innings. He allowed six runs, but only one earned as BC committed four errors. Carpenter struck out five and gave up four hits.
Saturday's series finale saw Bluefield come through with a 5-4 win. Dylan Lowenstein was 3-for-4 and Erik Williams 2-for-4 to lead the Rams' hitting attack.
Zac Tapia picked up the win in relief. Tapia pitched three innings of scoreless ball. He struck out three and allowed one hit. Chaz Miller started on the mound for BC and pitched six innings. Miller gave up four runs on eight hits and fanned nine Skyhawks.
Bluefield is now 8-10 overall and 2-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, and return to the diamond Friday at No. 23 Bryan for a weekend three-game series.
