Addison Wood tossed a complete game five hit shutout to lead the Bluefield College Rams to an 8-0 win over the Hiwassee College Tigers in game two of a twinbill, Wednesday evening at Bowen Field. Hiwassee took game one 7-4 in nine innings.
Wood, a graduate of nearby Princeton High School, struck out two Tigers and walked one in gaining the win. At the dish
Matt Ferreira got the scoring started in the second inning with a two run home run. Ferreira finished with three RBIs.
Pat Gough was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in.
In game one the Rams ran out to a 4-0 lead before Hiwassee scored three in the fifth and one in the sixth to send the game to extra innings. The visitors scored three in the top of the ninth for the win.
BC pounded out 13 hits in the game, led by
Ryan Lawson who was 4-for-5.
Nolan Soto was 3-for-4 and Ferreira and Gough both had a pair of hits.
Erik Williams connected for his 14th home run of the season.
Mike Tinucci suffered the loss for the Rams.
Bluefield, now 18-19, takes to the road this weekend, returning to Appalachian Athletic Conference action in Cleveland, Ga., against Truett-McConnell.
