BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield College men's volleyball team celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 win over Bryan College as the team's lone senior, Daniel Griffin, had a block that gave the Rams the victory in the final set. Bluefield won the match 25-20, 25-14, 25-23.
In game one the Rams jumped to a 9-5 lead and went up 15-10 only to see Bryan rally to pull to within two at 16-14. Bryan battled but the game-winning point came when the Lions' serve was out of bounds.
The second game saw Bluefield pull ahead by six and later eight points at which time Bryan called time. The lead grew to nine and later the final margin of victory as the Rams took the 25-14 win.
The third set was the most competitive of the match. Bryan took its first lead in the match at 1-0 and later forcged ties at seven, eight, 13 and 17. Bluefield went ahead 20-17 only to see the Lions roar back and not only tie the game, but take the lead. Connor Holland's kill tied the game at 22. The Rams later tied the match at 23 and then scored the final two points, the last coming on Griffin's block.
Prior to the match Griffin was introduced to the crowd along with his parents. The Greensboro, N.C. native is the only senior on the team. He was a member of last year's inaugural men's volleyball squad and also a four-year member of the Bluefield College football team.
