Box Score BLUEFIELD, Va. - Garrett Schilling's single to center in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Jordan Ackerman with the game-winning run and the Bluefield College Rams defeated the Milligan College Buffaloes 12-11, Wednesday night at Bowen Field.
Bluefield took the lead in the bottom of the first only to see Milligan pull ahead with two runs in the second and four in the third. The Rams' runs in the third came on Erik Williams' 11th home run of the season to make the score 6-3 in favor of Milligan.
Milligan scored two more in the fourth before the Rams exploded for four in the bottom of the fourth, the runs coming on a grand slam by Williams, his 12th long ball of the season, second of the night and his third hit of the game.
The Rams added three runs in the fifth to go ahead 10-8. The big hit was a two-run home run by Eddie Torres.
Milligan took the lead in the top of the ninth thanks to a Bluefield error and a two-run base knock that came with two out in the inning. The Rams drew even in the bottom of the ninth, pushing across a run.
Milligan threatened in the 10th, getting runners on the corners, but could not score.
In the bottom of the 10th Ackerman led off the inning and was hit by a pitch. Torres' sacrifice bunt moved him to second. After a ground out Schilling stepped to the plate and his hit to center scored Ackerman with the game-winning run.
Williams and Schilling both had three hits in the game. Williams knocked in six runs, while Schilling had one RBI. Dylan Lowenstein and Dallas Bacon had two hits apiece.
Thomas Huddleston picked up the win for Bluefield.
The Rams are now 15-15 and 3-6 in the AAC and return to the diamond Friday, hosting St. Andrews in an AAC contest that starts at 6 p.m. at Bowen Field.
