Box Score 3 BABSON PARK, Fla. - It was a tough opening weekend for the Bluefield College baseball team in the Sunshine State as the Rams dropped games to Webber International University and Warner University.
Saturday afternoon the Rams dropped a doubleheader at Webber 7-4 and 1-0.
In the opening game the homestanding Royals scored five runs in the fourth inning to seal the win. The Rams rallied for three in the top of the fifth but it was not enough.
Garrett Schilling and
Nolan Soto each had a pair of hits for Bluefield while
Matt Ferreira knocked in a pair of runs.
Chaz Miller suffered the loss on the mound.
In the second game with Webber, Bluefield pitchers held WIU scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when the Royals scored the game's only run on a single.
Michael Carpenter pitched six innings of three-hit baseball and
Zac Tapia was dealt the loss. BC pitchers surrendered only four hits in the game.
At the plate Webber pitchers held Bluefield to three hits, all singles by
Eddie Torres,
Jordan Ackerman and
Dallas Bacon.
In the final game of the Florida trip on Sunday, the Rams took on Warner University, who defeated them in the season opening game Friday, 11-1. Warner came out on top again, but the Rams managed to awaken their bats and fell 13-6.
Torres had two hits, Ackerman scored two runs and Schilling and Bacon had two RBIs apiece.
Daniel Ruiz was handed the loss for Bluefield as he worked four innings and gave up 11 runs on 11 hits.
The Rams return to action Feb. 12-13 at the Perfect Game Tournament in Lake Point, Ga., taking on Mount Mercy University, Taylor University, the University of the Cumberlands and Brescia University.
