Box Score BLUEFIELD, Va. - The Union College Bulldogs came to Bluefield with only two conference losses and after a hard fought four-match set beat the Rams 3-1 to remain atop the Appalachian Athletic Conference standings.
The opening set saw BC take a 3-0 lead and the Rams maintained the lead until Union was able to tie things at 17. The lead went back-and-forth and after ties at 21, 22 and 23, Union took the lead on a Bluefield technical error and scored the final point for a 25-23 win.
Bluefield evened the match in game number two. Again the Rams took the early lead and built a lead as high as five points before Union called time to regroup. Bluefield proceeded to score five of the next eight points and took the game 25-22.
As in the first two sets, BC led early, but as in the opening game, Union stormed back late for a 25-22 win.
In the fourth and final game, Bluefield led by three on several occasions until Union tied the game at 15. The Bulldogs outscored the Rams 10-5 down the stretch to win the game and take the match.
Conference Setter of the Week
Camry McCroskey led Bluefield with 45 assists.
Kaitlyn Shaver had 15 kills.
Ashlyn VanDyke had 20 digs while
Lexie Austin had four blocks.
Union improved to 23-8 overall and 13-2 in AAC play. Bluefield fell to 15-14 overall and 6-10 in conference competition.
The Rams return to the court Thursday, Oct. 20 against crosstown rival Bluefield State in a non-conference match.
