Bulldogs bite Rams

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. - Two second half goals spelled doom for the Bluefield College men's soccer team in its Appalachian Athletic Conference opener Wednesday night at the East River Soccer Complex. The Union Bulldogs scored twice in the game's final 40 minutes to claim a 3-1 win over the Rams and stay unbeaten on the season.
Union drew first blood in the game's 16th minute when Luke Hitchman curved a corner kick into the net to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Bluefield wasted little time as a minute later Nikolai Vilsboll knotted the game with an unassisted goal. The teams went to the halftime break tied at one.
Following the intermission Union got a quick goal from Jake Turnbull in the 50th minute. Hitchman assisted on the score. The Bulldogs' final score came in the 88th minute as Hitchman once again found the net.
Oscar Hernandez had four saves for the Rams whose three-game winning streak was snapped. Union improved to 6-0-2.
Bluefield, now 3-4, hosts Reinhardt, Saturday afternoon in an AAC contest.
