BLUEFIELD, Va. – Fall sports are in full swing on the Bluefield College campus and student-athletes in many sports are hitting the fields and courts this weekend representing the Rams in athletic competition.
The men's and women's soccer teams are in action Saturday at the East River Soccer Complex, both squads hosting Columbia International University of Columbia, S.C. The BC women are coming of a 1-1 tie Wednesday at the University of the Cumberlands.
Victoria Doyle scored a goal with an assist from
Faith Shrewsbury in the 85
th minute to tie the match. The teams played overtime but neither found the back of the net. BC comes into the game with a 1-2-1 mark. Kick off with CIU at 1 p.m.
The men's soccer team claimed victory on Wednesday at Cumberlands, 1-nil, on a late goal by
Matthew Carragher. It was the Rams' second straight win and the team's record stands at 2-3. Their contest with CIU is set for 3 p.m.
The football team is on the road for another battle with a Top 10 team. The Rams will be in Columbia, Ky., to battle No. 3 Lindsey Wilson College. Last week the Rams came up short 47-35 against No. 10 Faulkner. In that game the Rams got 231 yards rushing and three touchdowns from
Adrian Pope who was named Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Pope left the game with an injury and is questionable for Saturday's MSC game. The Rams also lost running back
Sam Bennett to a broken forearm. Look for
Shane Milhorne and
Alex Martin to step up this weekend, along with
Marion Harris.
Coach
Buddy Gallemore's volleyball team has a pair of weekend road matches. The spikers play Friday at AAC foe Reinhardt before moving on to another conference match at Truett-McConnell on Saturday. Volleyball defeated Concord University and fell to Southern Virginia University in a tri-match earlier this week on the CU campus. Their season record is 3-3.
The men and women's tennis teams are both participating in the Methodist College Invitational this weekend. This past weekend the Rams men won 10 matches against Montreat in the Bluefield College Invitational and several against teammates. The women won one flight and finished second in another.
