MASON, Ohio -- A 6-2 loss to top-seeded Fresno Pacific University and a 6-4 defeat to #8 Toccoa Falls on Thursday afternoon dropped Bluefield's pool play record to 0-3 at the NCCAA World Series, closing the Rams' hopes of advancing to semifinal play slated for Friday. The Rams played the games back-to-back on Legacy Field.
The Rams' season will end on Friday afternoon, as they face #5 Central Baptist College at 2 p.m. CBC is also 0-3 so far in pool play. Fresno Pacific finished its pool play Thursday evening at 3-0-1, while Palm Beach Atlantic is 2-0-1--the two were tied 2-2 before hitting the three hour time limit for pool play games. Palm Beach concludes pool play on Friday against Toccoa at 11 a.m. The Eagles are 2-1 in pool play, having lost to FPU on Wednesday, 8-0.
Ryan Lawson and
Garrett Schilling led the Rams at the plate, each logging four hits on the day. All four of Lawson's hits went for extra bases, as he tallied three doubles and a triple.
Tyler Timmer and
Jacob Schober each had two-hit performances against Toccoa Falls to help Bluefield to the 13-9 edge in hits in the game, but the Rams didn't get the timely hits to produce runs.
vs. Fresno PacificBluefield miscues placed the Rams in an early 4-1 hole against No. 1 seed Fresno Pacific. The Sunbirds built a 4-1 lead through three innings, but just one run was earned--a solo homer to lead off the second inning.
Lawson led off the Rams' third with a triple and scored on a Timmer sac fly to make it 2-1, but FPU tallied two unearned in the third for the 4-1 lead.
Lawson led off the fifth with a double, and scored BC's second run of the game on a two-out single through the middle by
Sawyer McLamb, making it 4-2.
However, FPU pieced together four hits in the seventh inning off starter
Cory Niten (5-4) to get some breathing room.
The Rams had a pair of base runners in the eighth, but couldn't convert as FPU went  to its bullpen with two out. Starter Eian Raeber claimed the win in 7.2 innings of work, while Kyle Rasmussen took the 1.1 inning save, retiring all five batters faced.
vs. Toccoa FallsThe Rams committed no fielding errors against the Eagles, but did have two outs made at home plate. The Eagles were able to flip the script on BC, as the Rams had taken a 6-4 win in early March in a neutral-site game played at Southern Wesleyan.

Chris McCollister drove him in with a sacrifice fly.
Toccoa's first two hits off starter
Chaz Miller (6-4) led off the fourth inning, with a triple and a double evening the score, 1-1. Miller was able to get out of the inning without any further damage, though.
A sacfifice fly for Toccoa made it 2-1 in favor of the Eagles, but Bluefield came back in the sixth with a run. Timmer led off the frame with a double, and advanced to third on a Schilling single. A walk loaded the bases. TFC took the trade for two outs and just one score, as Schober grounded into a double play. Pinch runner
Gavan Yates then tried to score on a wild pitch, but a good carom off the backstop got the out and halted BC's rally.
The Eagles look advantage of limiting BC's scoring in the previous half inning and scored two in the bottom of the seventh on a single from Tyler Hill.
Bluefield was able to respond again, as four-straight hits produced two runs. TImmer led off with another double, while Schilling, McLamb and Schober all singled. But, another double play stifled BC's hopes to make a run at the Eagles and only allowed the Rams within 6-4.
Dan Copeland led off the ninth with a single, but TFC produced a double play for its third-straight inning to quickly put two outs on the board. A ground out to first closed the game.
Zach Breeded claimed the win for Toccoa, going eight innings and allowing just four runs despite 12 hits. Colton Roberts earned the save.
