St. Andrews takes pair from Bluefield softball

LAURINBURG, N.C. -- The hosting Knights of St. Andrews University claimed a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference softball games from Bluefield on Wednesday afternoon, taking the first 8-1 before holding off the visitors 3-1 in the finale.

Game 1
A five-run fourth inning propelled St. Andrews to the win in game one. The Knights tallied five hits in the frame, with each run and four of the hits coming with two outs.

Bluefield tallied just three hits for the contest, with Ali Bartley, Tianna Macies and Laura Craven each hitting safely. Eryn Haley reached on a walk in the third and came around to score when Holcomb reached on an error.

Craven took the loss in game one, while Summer Jacobs claimed the win.

Game 2
Bluefield out-hit the hosts 8-4 in game two, but the Knights were able to capitalize and take the 3-1 victory.

Bluefield threatened a rally in the final frame by loading the bases. Holcomb tallied an RBI on a groundout, but the Lady Rams couldn't pull any closer.

Haley and Craven each tallied a pair of hits in game two, with Craven getting a double.

Brienna Sparks took the loss despite allowing just two hits in four innings of work. Andrea Christian threw the final two innings for Bluefield. Mary Cross claimed the win for St. Andrews.

Bluefield is slated to host Bluefield State College on Thursday at 1 p.m.
