MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. -- The Bluefield College baseball team dropped a pair of contests on Monday, falling at Milligan College by 10-9 and 18-2 scores.
The games were made up from earlier in the year, having completed the single game as part of the AAC series. Milligan won the previous meeting, 10-0.
Game 1The Rams (22-20, 6-15 AAC) tied game one on a
Tyler Timmer sacrifice fly in the seventh to force extras.
Sawyer McLamb then led off the eighth with a home run, but Milligan (20-11, 12-9 AAC) got a two-RBI, walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth for the 10-9 win.
In the back-and-forth game,
Ryan Lawson,
Chris McCollister and McLamb each tallied multiple hits. Lawson doubled in the seventh to eventually score on the Timmer sac fly.
Dan Copeland led BC with two RBI on the day, scoring both
Gavan Yates and McLamb on a single as part of a four-run second inning. Lawson and McCollister also added RBI-singles during the inning which tied BC and Milligan at four-all.
Jacob Schober homered in the top of the third, once again squaring the game, after Milligan had answered with a single run in the bottom of the second.
The Rams added two runs in the fifth, as
Garrett Schilling drove in one on a double-play and Timmer scored from third on a wild pitch, giving BC a 7-6 advantage.
However, Milligan once again responded, plating two in the bottom of the sixth to reclaim the lead.
Bluefield gained the lead with its single runs in both the seventh and eighth, but the Buffs completed the comeback to defend home field.
Dylan Ruth took the loss for the Rams, while Jarrett Ramsay claimed the win for Milligan.
Game 2Bluefield tallied just three hits in game two, while Milligan used a pair of big innings to run away with an 18-2 win.
In the fourth inning, Schilling singled home Timmer and Schober scored on a wild throw following a stolen base. However, those were the Rams' only runs in the finale.
Milligan scored seven runs in the third and broke the game wide open with an eight-run fourth. The Buffs tacked on three more in the fifth and took the 18-2 final.
