BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The Bluefield College men's volleyball team nearly took one set from Eastern Mennonite, but the visiting Royals came out with the three-set win, 25-17, 30-28, 25-15 on Tuesday evening at the Dome Gymnasium.

Bluefield (3-17) had a balanced attack as Isaiah Williams, Chase Craycraft and Daniel Williams tallied nine, eight and seven kills, respectively. Connor Holland added five more kills for the Rams. Isaiah Williams logged 22 assists and also had a team-best 3.5 blocks, five assisted and one solo.

Daniel Williams also had five block assists, while Daniel Griffin's four digs led the Rams.

Eastern Mennonite (12-6)was led by Tim Callahan's 13 kills, while Zach Guiciardi and Marc Lovell spread the offense with 15 and 16 assists, respectively. Jesse Reist had a game-high nine digs.

Set one was back and forth in the early going, before the visitors slowly built a lead with a 9-5 rally. Bluefield pulled back within three at 15-12, but would get no closer as the Royals pushed the lead to 20-14 and finished off the first, 25-17. EMU hit .304 in the first compared to just .172 for Bluefield.

EMU took an early 7-3 lead in the second, but Bluefield clamored back to tie it at 9-all. The set was nip-and-tuck the rest of the way. The Rams extended a lead to 20-16, but the visitors responded and pulled even, 21-21.

Bluefield faced a pair of set points after taking a 24-22 lead, but EMU used a kill and a BC handling error to square it at 24. The teams traded points until back-to-back EMU kills made it 27-26 for EMU. Errors were then traded back-and-forth before a Reist kill and another Ram handling error gave the visitors the 30-28 set and 2-0 lead.

The Rams registered their best hitting percentage in the second stanza at .333--logging 15 kills and four errors on 33 attacks--while EMU had its lowest of the match, at .184.

The Royals raced out to a 10-3 advantage in the third and never looked back en route to the 25-15 win and sweep.

The Rams close out their 2015 home schedule on Friday at 7 p.m., hosting University of Charleston.
