FERRUM, Va. -- Weather finally cooperated for the Bluefield College softball team on Thursday, allowing the team to play its first games since February 14. But, Bluefield dropped both contests at Franklin Community Bank Field against hosts Ferrum College, 6-0 and 12-1.
Bluefield moves to 0-6, while the Panthers improve to 10-2 with the pair of victories.
Kaitlyn Pennington's third-inning single was the only hit for the Lady Rams in game one, while
Eryn Haley and
Laura Craven each had two-hit games in the finale.
Ali Bartley and
Tianna Macias also logged base hits in game two, with Macias tallying the lone RBI of the day.
Brienna Sparks (0-2) took the loss in game one, allowing three runs in 2.2 innings. Craven finished off the game, allowing three runs over 3.1 innings.
In game two, the Panthers quickly figured out
Michaela Carter and scored 11 runs in two innings, though five were unearned.
Andrea Christian and
Hali Saul each tossed an inning as well.
With more rain forecasted for the region, Bluefield's contests at Kentucky Christian have been cancelled and Saturday's Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup at Union will be postponed and rescheduled. The Lady Rams' next game is slated for Monday, March 16 when Bluefield will host University of the Cumberlands. The game will be played at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, W. Va., due to likely unplayable field conditions following the weekend's rain.
