Game Recap: Softball |

Rough start to season continues for BC softball

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The Bluefield College softball team has dropped its last six outings, continuing its rough start to the 2015 season. The team fell in its first Appalachian Athletic Conference games with Milligan on Sunday, before being defeated by University of the Cumberlands on Monday and AAC opponent Montreat College on Wednesday.

The team's bright spot came in Monday's first game against Cumberlands, as Brienna Sparks tossed all seven innings in the 4-1 defeat. The game was played at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, W. Va. Three of the runs were earned, but Bluefield could not get enough runs across the plate despite six hits. Laura Craven had a pair of doubles on the day, and scored the lone run on an Ali Bartley single.

Bluefield was shut out in all four of its conference matchups, combining for just six hits in the four games.

The Lady Rams are slated to open their home schedule this weekend, hosting Truett-McConnell on Saturday and (19) Reinhardt now on Sunday--the game was scheduled for Friday, but has been pushed back due to rain in the forecast. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts.
