Rams win third in a row

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield College women's volleyball team won its third straight match, the latest coming Friday night at the Dome Gymnasium against Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Truett-McConnell in five sets. The Rams took the win 25-27, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 15-11.

Bluefield saw the return of senior Jasmine Morrow from injury and her impact was felt when she stepped onto the court. The visiting Bears went ahead by six but the Rams pulled to within two on a kill by Morrow and to within one on another kill by Ellen Johnson. Bluefield was able to tie the game at 18 and later drew even at 23 on an ace by Hannah Winter before taking the lead 24-23. After a time out TMC was able to take the game 27-25.

In game two Bluefield went up by four before Truett-McConnell knotted the score at 11. Each point was tied until Bluefield took a 20-18 lead. TMC tied it at 20 before a Johnson kill put BC back on top by a point. The Rams won the final point on a spectacular volley which saw Morrow, on her back on the floor, keep the ball alive and helped BC win the point and game, 25-23.

The Rams took game three by the same score as game two, 25-23. Both teams had four-point leads during the set and each time the other team battled back to tie. Bluefield tied things at 22 on an service ace by Lexie Mocarski.

As in the other games, number four was tied throughout, the final one coming at 21. Truett-McConnell scored the last four points to win 25-21 and force a fifth and deciding game.

Bluefield came out smoking in the final set rolling to a 5-0 lead on a pair of Rachel Alley kills. True to the game's form TMC stormed back and tied the game at nine and later 10. Bluefield went on a 5-1 run to end the game and take a 15-11 win and a victory in the match.

Morrow had 12 kills for BC while Alley had 14 and Amber Taylor-Inge 10. Johnson had 12 kills and 14 digs and Camry McCroskey had 45 assists and 20 digs.

The win was the third straight for the Rams and the second consecutive AAC win. With the victory the Rams are now 6-8 and 2-7 in conference play. Truett-McConnell falls to 6-8 overall and 3-5 in the conference. Bluefield hosts AAC foe Reinhardt, Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
