BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Oh so close. The Bluefield College Rams lost a hard-fought battle against the Georgetown (Ky.) College Tigers 14-0, Saturday afternoon at a rainy Mitchell Stadium. A close battle throughout, the turning point of the game when the Tigers held the Rams on four downs from their one yard line, then drove 96 yards for the game's final touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Georgetown scored the game's first points in the when Jordan Kindred covered a bad Bluefield shotgun snap in the end zone for the score with 6:11 to play in the second quarter. Josh Depp's point it 7-0.
Bluefield had chances throughout the contest but were unable to convert chances into points.
Damen Daniel relieved
Cason Whitt at quarterback in the second quarter and helped the Rams move the ball. Whitt returned to open the second half as the two shared signal calling duties on the afternoon.
Marion Harris was Bluefield's leading ground gainer with 50 yards. Co-leading rusher
Adrian Pope did not play due to injuries. The game was a statistical tie. Bluefield out-rushed Georgetown 135-132 and led in passing 89-87. Both teams had 13 first downs. The Rams turned the ball over three times and the Tigers twice, both interceptions by
Carlton Toussaint, his third and fourth picks of the season.
Harry Casseus led the defense with nine tackles and
Frank Brooks and
Gabe Spencer had six apiece.
Bluefield drops to 0-7 while Georgetown improves to 2-4.
The Rams are idle next week and welcome The Apprentice School to Mitchell Stadium for Homecoming on Oct. 24.
