WALESKA, Ga. -- The Bluefield College men's soccer team took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but homestanding Reinhardt found the back of the net twice in the second half en route to a 2-1 win in Appalachian Athletic Conference action at Ken White Field.
The loss snaps the Rams' four-game win streak and is their first AAC defeat of the season, dropping the team to 4-2, 2-1 AAC. Meanwhile, Reinhardt's win improves the Eagles to 4-0 and 2-0 in early conference play.
The Rams got on the board quickly, with
Michael Callaghan converting a free kick in the third minute of play. But, instead of adding another shortly after, as they have in the majority of their games this season, the Rams were held in check for the remainder of the game.
The hosts leveled the match at 1-1 on a Matthew Gray goal in the 62nd minute and added what proved to be the game winner in the 73rd minute of play thanks to Alan Barikos.
The majority of the game was played through the middle of the field, as the teams combined for 16 total shots--Bluefield nine and Reinhardt seven, with both having four shots on frame.
Reinhardt had eight corner kicks to just one for the Rams. Fouls were close to even, with BC called for 13, and Reinhardt 11.
BC keeper
Jefferson Watson made two safes in the outing, while Eagles' keeper Matt Amis made three.
Bluefield returns to action at the East River Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Montreat College for a 4 p.m. AAC matchup.
