SB-Action-Holcomb-SS
PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The Bluefield College softball team allowed University of Pikeville to score in just four of their 12 at-bats, but the big-scoring innings led to 7-0 and 11-3 wins for the hosting Bears in Mid-South Conference softball action, Wednesday afternoon.

Bluefield tallied four hits in the lead game, but a seven-run second inning from UPike led to the 7-0 win for the hosts.

The Bears took advantage of three walks by starting pitcher Brienna Sparks in the second by also adding three hits in the frame. The results would be seven runs, capped by a three-run home run from Courtney Morgan.

Meanwhile, UPike's Sydney Morris held BC scoreless from the circle through the remainder of the game for the 7-0 win.

In game two, BC held the advantage early, opening a 3-0 lead through three innings.

Sparks led off with a double, while a passed ball advanced the freshman to third base. A ground out to third from Natasha Smith posted the first run of the game.

BC tacked on two runs in the third, with Kasey Holcomb and Ali Bartley reaching base with one out. A fly out to center allowed Holcomb to tag and advance, while Morgan Stephens drove in both base runners with a double to center field to gain a 3-0 advantage.

But, the big innings returned for UPike, as a four-run fourth lifted the hosts to a 4-3 lead.

Two more runs were plated in the fifth, while five more finished the game in the bottom of the sixth by a score a 11-3.

Second baseman Emily Castle led UPike's charge in game two, tallying a two-run home run, a sacrifice fly as well as a two-run single for five RBI.

Bluefield continues its Mid-South Conference slate at home this weekend, hosting Georgetown College on Friday and University of the Cumberlands on Saturday. Friday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. and Saturday's at 2 p.m.
