Box Score BLUEFIELD, Va. – Bluefield State College may have outhit the Rams 13-7, but Bluefield College turned four double plays and used speed on the base paths en route to a 6-2 win in the battle of the Bluefields, Wednesday afternoon at Bowen Field.
Senior
Zac Russell-Myers took the mound for the opening inning, then settled in as the designated hitter the rest of the day, going 2-for-3, batting in two and scoring two runs as well.
Kahlin Villines also tallied a pair of RBIs.
Five different Rams stepped on the mound in the contest, with
Kaleb Houchins moving to 4-0 on the year with the win. The Blues had four players toe the rubber, with Ben Fraley taking the loss as the starter, giving up five runs in 3.2 innings of work.
Bluefield State utilized three hits in the first frame to take a 1-0 lead, but the Rams tallied single runs in the first three frames and two in the fourth to take control of the game and build a 5-1 cushion.
Jacob Schober claimed the game's first RBI, sending a sacrifice fly to right field and scoring Russell-Myers—who led off the Rams' at bat with a walk.
Houchins pitched three scoreless innings beginning in the second as BC steadily built its lead.
With one out in the second,
Daniel Copeland drew a walk before a
Tyler Rome single advanced him to third base. A fielder's choice groundball from Villines earned BC the 2-1 lead which they would not relinquish.
A walk once again paid off for the Rams in the third, as Timmer reached and then advanced all the way to third after a wild throw on a pick-off attempt. A Schober groundout to short scored Timmer for the 3-1 lead.

Tyler Rome, while a Russell-Myers single through the left side of the infield brought in Villines, opening the Rams' advantage to 5-1 through four innings.
After a pair of scoreless frames, BC added another tally in the seventh as Russell-Myers led off the inning by launching a home run to left field.
Back-to-back hits from Bluefield State plated their second run of the day in the top of the eighth, but
Cory Niten closed out the ninth 1-2-3 for the 6-2 final.
The Rams hit the road this weekend for their Mid-South Conference series at Shawnee State. Games are slated for Friday and Saturday, but may be altered due to the forecasted weather for the weekend.
