and two solo blocks in BC's win, Wednesday.BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The Bluefield College volleyball took a commanding 3-0 sweep from University of Charleston at Beckley, Wednesday evening at the Dome Gymnasium.
Following a 25-4 win in set one, BC took the next two 25-12 and 25-21 for the victory.
BC jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the first and never looked back. Late in the set, junior
Jasmine Morrow served 12-straight times as BC opened the set wide open and took the 25-4 win.
In the second, UC-Beckley took an early 5-3 lead, but Bluefield used a 6-0 run to take a 9-5 edge. A 10-1 rally made the Lady Rams' lead 20-9 before closing out the set 25-12.
Bluefield gained a 17-10 advantage in the third, but the visitors came back with a 7-2 rally to close the deficit to two, 19-17. But, BC outscored UC-Beckley 6-4 to close out the set and match.
Seventeen Lady Rams saw action, leading to a balanced attack led by four kills from both
Rachel Alley and
Lexie Austin.
Jasmine Morrow and
Amber Taylor-Inge added three kills apiece in just one set of play, while
Mikaela Hurst also put down three kills.
Channel Flores led BC with nine assists, followed by seven from
Marissa Grice and four from
Kiki Murphy.
Austin's six digs led the defensive effort, while the freshman also chipped in a pair of block assists and solo blocks. Taylor-Inge also claimed two block assists and solo blocks.
BC tallied 16 service aces in the match, including five from Grice and three from Morrow.
The team closes its 2014 regular season on Thursday evening, hosting West Virginia Tech at 6 p.m.
