MONTREAT, N.C. -- Five Lady Rams scored double-digits on the afternoon, and Bluefield used a strong second-half performance to down Montreat College, 74-62, Saturday afternoon at McAlister Gymnasium.
With the win, BC moves to 4-3 on the year and 2-2 in early season Appalachian Athletic Conference play. The Cavaliers drop to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in conference matchups.
All five of Bluefield's starters logged a double-digit scoring night, led by a career high 16 from
Maryah Mazyck. Freshman
Adrianne Goodlet added 14, while
Destiny Tolliver added 13 and a game-high nine rebounds.
Shelby Key and
Whitney Smith added 10 apiece in the win.
Montreat was paced by Pearl Henriquez' game-high 36 points on 10-for-19 shooting from the floor. Gabrielle King added 11, but the rest of the Cavaliers combined for just 15 points.
The hosts took a 33-30 lead into the break, but Bluefield found its offensive rhythm in the second half en route to outscoring Montreat 43-29 in the final period.
After shooting 37.5% in the first half, Bluefield connected on 16-of-28 (57.1%) attempts in the final 20 minutes, while Montreat was just 7-for-26 (26.9).
Bluefield tallied 15 steals as Montreat turned the ball over 26 times in all. Bluefield had 23 turnovers.
The Lady Rams finished the night shooting a season-best 46.7% (28-for-60) from the floor. Montreat's second half dropped their percentage to 42.1% (18-for-52) in the contest.
Bluefield returns to the Dome Gymnasium on Monday evening, hosting Bluefield State College at 6 p.m. for the annual rivalry game, the Battle of the Bluefields.
