VIENNA, W. Va. -- A season-high six goals, led by two-goal efforts from both
Dean Johnson and
Nikolai Solomon, lifted the Bluefield College men's soccer team past Ohio Valley University by a 6-0 margin, Monday afternoon.
Bluefield (8-3) ties the program's single-season wins mark with the victory, which has been met each of the last three seasons. Ohio Valley falls to 0-11 with the defeat.
Johnson led the Rams early with goals in the 8th and 11th minutes of action, with the second tally being assisted by
Benjy Slator.
Slator once again provided the assist on the Rams' next goal which came in the 28th minute, as Solomon earned BC a 3-0 lead which it would take into halftime.
BC outshot the Fighting Scots 16-4 in the opening 45 minutes of play.
In the second half of play, Solomon picked up where he left off to provide the Rams with a 4-0 lead in the 47th minute.
Johnson picked up assists on the final two goals for BC to close out a six-point outing, helping Slator to a goal in the 67th minute and
Matt Jones to a marker in the 77th minute.
The Rams closed out the match outshooting the hosts 26-12, and held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Oscar Hernandez logged his second shutout of the season, and the Rams' fifth, matching the most shutouts on record for a single season which was achieved in 2011 and included a 0-0 tie. Hernandez tallie five saves to keep the clean sheet.
Bluefield returns to action on Oct. 14, traveling to face former Mid-South Conference foe Shawnee State University. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
