BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The visiting Milligan College Buffaloes tallied a goal in each half and held BC scoreless, en route to the 2-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference win in women's soccer action Friday evening at the East River Soccer Complex.
Shots were at a premium during the evening, as BC finished with six and Milligan with just five.
It looked as if the teams would play to a 0-0 tie as the first half began to wind down, but a corner kick allowed the Buffaloes to get on the board.
Following Christine Hardin's corner kick, BC could not clear the loose ball in the box, allowing Kyler Williams the opportunity to slip the ball past BC keeper
Amanda Brown with just 1:11 remaining in the opening half.
The shot was just Milligan's second of the half, while BC tallied three shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
Senior
Braley Freire posted a shot slightly more than 10 minutes into the second half, but the effort sailed wide.
Sami Joy then made the score 2-0 in favor of the visitors in the 67th minute. After a BC foul, Joy served the free kick into the box, but a big hop sailed the ball over Brown's outstretched arm as she charged the ball.
Freire had a opportunity to pull BC within one with in the 79th minute, but Charlotte Stevens made the save to hold BC scoreless.
Four of Milligan's five shots were on-target, while BC put two of its six attempts on frame.
BC had five corner kicks on the night, with each attempt coming in the second half. Milligan had four.
Bluefield has a week before its next game, scheduled to play its first non-conference game of the season at Toccoa Falls. Kickoff on Oct. 10 is slated for 5 p.m.
