BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The Bluefield College volleyball team overpowered visiting Appalachian Bible College, Thursday evening, taking a quick 3-0 sweep from the Warriors, 25-5, 25-9, 25-18.
BC outmatched their opponent from the start by grabbing an 11-2 lead out of the gates and forcing an ABC timeout. Bluefield continued the attack and also benefitted from the Warriors' miscues, taking the first set 25-5. Bluefield had 13 kills in the set to just one error on 19 total attacks, leading to a .632 hitting percentage.
In the second, it was much of the same as Bluefield once again held Appalachian Bible under 10 points with a 25-9 set win and a 2-0 lead. Bluefield once again had 13 kills in the set and no errors on their 29 attempts (.448).
Appalachian Bible posted its best challenge in the third set, but Bluefield still claimed the win, 25-18, for the sweep.
Jasmine Morrow's nine kills led the attack.
Rachel Alley added five more, while
Mikaela Hurst and
Lexie Austin hit at a .571 clip, claiming four kills on seven attempts.
Kiki Murphy had 16 assists to lead Bluefield, with
Channel Flores claiming seven.
Hannah Amis' eight digs led the defensive effort, followed by seven digs from
Ashlyn Van Dyke,
Ellen Johnson,
Kaitie Shaver and Morrow.
Bluefield returns to Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Friday evening, traveling to face Columbia College at 6:30 p.m.
