Campbellsville takes three wins from BC athletics, Saturday

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- Bluefield College's volleyball and men's and women's soccer teams all played host to Mid-South Conference member Campbellsville University on Saturday, with the Tigers' teams coming away with three victories. In volleyball, CU won 3-0; while both visiting teams earned 2-0 wins over the hosting Rams.

VOLLEYBALL
The Tigers (13-2, 7-1 MSC) grabbed an early lead at 9-5 and forced BC's (1-11, 0-6 MSC) first timeout of the set. Campbellsville continued its strong opening set and eased in to a 25-13 win.

BC challenged strongly in the second set, including having a tie at 15-13. However, CU caught BC with several ties, with the final being at 19-19. Back-to-back points for the Tigers forced a BC timeout, while a block ended set two in favor of CU, 25-21.

The Tigers cruised through the third set, 25-9, for the sweep.

BC's Jasmine Morrow had 12 kills on the day, while CU had three hitters with 10 or more kills. Sydney Spencer had 21 assists for the Rams for a match high, with CU once again spreading it around with Kristina Mihelsone and Jackie Schwieger having 18 and 13 assists, respectively.

BC hits the court again on Tuesday, traveling to Shawnee State to open the month of October.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
At the East River Soccer Complex, CU (5-3-1, 3-2 MSC) made its first score in the 18th minute thanks to Aris Kuntz.

Campbellsville tacked on another score in the 61st minute and held on the rest of the way.

The Tigers owned a 14-5 advantage in shots during the game, with the shots on goal edge standing at 8-3. The Rams (5-4, 0-4 MSC) were able to get a 6-4 advantage in corner opportunities, but could not covert on the set plays as they have done earlier in the year.

Kayla Richardson made five saves for BC while Brandie Hagerman made three saves in the shutout.

BC hosts Barton College at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1.

MEN'S SOCCER
Roraigh Yearwood served as the difference maker for the visiting Tigers (9-1, 3-1 MSC), scoring one goal in each half for CU. The first came in the 12th minute of play, while he struck again in the 61st minute to up the advantage to 2-0.

Both teams were aggressive with shots in the contest, with CU taking 23 and BC (4-6, 1-3 MSC) 19. Campbellsville put nine on target and Bluefield had six of their shots be scoring chances. CU held a 12-8 edge in the first-half shots, while both teams fired 11 in the final 45 minutes.

Jefferson Watson tallied seven saves for BC, while Max Malachiyev had six saves in the shutout effort.

Bluefield had five corner kicks and Campbellsville had four.

The Rams return to East River Soccer Complex on Tues., Oct. 1 to host Crown College.
