Softball Falls to Shawnee State in Pair

As Bluefield College's softball team continues to face injury, they were forced to throw a pair of non-traditional pitchers against Shawnee State, Tuesday, as the visiting Bears picked up a pair of 5-inning victories, 11-2 and 14-0.

Freshman Kasey Holcomb pitched for the second straight day for the Lady Rams after seeing her first collegiate action yesterday. Kristen Hylton finished out game one, and went all five innings in game two for Bluefield.

Five different Bears claimed two RBIs in game one, en route to the 11-2 victory. Kristi Yates' two RBIs came by a homerun in the opening inning.

The Lady Rams plated their two runs in the third inning as they came up with three hits in the frame. Hylton singled to center with one out, while Ciera Conkle made it two straight singles in the next at bat. After a groundout and both players advanced, Morgan Stephens singled to left to drive in the pair.

Hylton pitched two scoreless innings to complete game one.

In the finale, Shawnee State's Allie Chapman hurled a near perfect game, but had to settle for the no-hitter. Her only blemish of the ball game was a hit batter, Heather Thomas.

The Bears struck for seven doubles in game two on the way to the 14-0 win.
