Georgetown outlasted Bluefield, 12-10, in extra innings once again to begin Saturday's doubleheader, while the Tiger's completed the series sweep in the finale by a score to 8-1 at Bowen Field. Prior to the doubleheader, Bluefield honored its 10 seniors.
Bluefield (17-24, 5-16 MSC) knotted game one at 10-all in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run homer from
Chris Rosa, but the Tigers (28-14, 15-6 MSC) plated two runs in the top of the 11th to earn their second-straight 10-plus inning victory over the Rams.
In game two, Shaun Meyer stymied the Rams in his seven-inning effort, allowing just one run on six hits.
Game One: (RV) Georgetown 12, Bluefield 10 (11 innings)
After moving through two scoreless innings, both squads plated runs in each of the following three frames.
Georgetown took a 1-0 lead on a Mike Steinke single, scoring Tanner Baldwin. Bluefield answered back as
Kahlin Villines cleared the left field fence to lead off the inning.
Chris Rosa drove in
Will Simpson on a sacrifice fly to give Bluefield the 2-1 lead.
After the Tigers plated two more in the top of the fourth, Bluefield took advantage of several Georgetown miscues to score four runs.
Jacob Wright opened the inning with a single. He later stole second and advanced to third as
Christian Burton reached on an error. Wright scored as a pickoff attempt from catcher Marvin Flores got away. A Villines single advanced Burton to third, before Burton came home on a passed ball. Hits by
Trevor Martin,
Zac Russell-Myers and
Chris Rosa plated two more runs to give BC a 6-3 lead.
However, Georgetown answered once again to square the game, 6-6, scoring three runs on four hits in the top of the fifth.
The Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame, with Burton hitting a sharp single to right to drive in one. A fielder's choice scored the Rams second run to bring the score to 8-6, BC. A 4-6-3 double play ended the Rams' rally.
Georgetown tacked on two more runs in the following two innings to claim a 10-8 lead. Bluefield starting pitcher
Justin Lykins was relieved by Russell-Myers in the seventh inning, and finished the day giving up eight runs.
Russell-Myers took the loss, while Chris Villalobos picked up his second victory in as many days, as he went five and a third in relief.
Rosa led the Rams, going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving in four including his homerun in the eighth. Villines drove in two, going 3-for-5. Martin and Burton claimed the Rams' final two RBIs.
Georgetown had eight different players tally an RBI, with Martin Lemus, Ryan Serrato and Marvin Flores each claiming two. Lemus hit a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning.
Game Two: Georgetown 8, Bluefield 1
Jamie Blackwell's first-inning triple drove in Rosa to give the Rams a 1-0 lead, but Tiger starting pitcher Meyer settled in for the remainder of the game, only allowing four more hits the rest of the way.
Georgetown plated runs in the third through sixth innings to open up an 8-1 advantage and continued to hold the Rams scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
The Tigers scored four runs in the fifth frame, all coming unearned as Rams miscues extended the visitors' inning.
Rosa and
Kaleb Long were the sole Rams to tally multiple hits in the ballgame, as each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
