Bluefield plated a combined 29 runs on 27 hits Saturday evening as they handily defeated Ohio University Chillicothe, 16-2 and 13-1.
Bluefield moves to 13-16 with the pair of victories.
Chris Rosa went 4-for-4 in the opener, stole four bases and was one of four Rams to have at least two RBIs.
Will Simpson drove in four runs, going 2-for-2 at the plate.
Kaleb Long drove in four in game two in 2-for-2 batting. Three more Rams, including Simpson who finished the day with six RBIs, drove in at least two as they cruised to the victory.
Justin Lykins earned the win in game one, striking out six and allowing just one hit.
Kyle Long took the game two win, striking out seven and allowing two hits.
Game 1: Bluefield 16, Ohio Chillicothe 2
Chillicothe claimed a 2-0 lead quickly, thanks to four first-inning walks and a pair of Bluefield errors.
Bluefield was held scoreless in the bottom of the first, but it would be the only scoreless inning for the Rams in game one.
Rosa scored the first run for Bluefield, singling to center, stealing both second and third base then coming across on a
Jamie Blackwell double.
The Rams jumped ahead with a big third inning, plating seven runs. Rosa's second hit of the evening drove in two and gave Bluefield a 5-2 advantage which they continued to build upon. Simpson, who started the inning off with a single, doubled to deep right-center to drive in two more for the Rams later in the inning to build an 8-2 lead.
Bluefield batted around once again in the third, scoring six runs on five hits. Russell Myers led off the inning with his fifth triple of the season – he added his sixth triple of the year in game two – and scored on a
Jacob Wright sacrifice fly. Simpson belted his second two RBI hit of the game later in the inning, building the Rams lead to 14-2.
Bluefield closed the game with two more in the bottom of the fifth and earned the five inning victory, 16-2.
Lykins (2-3) settled in after the first inning, allowing just one hit in the ball game and one earned run.
Game 2: Bluefield 13, Ohio Chillicothe 1
The Rams plated the first run as Rosa and
Christian Burton stood first and third. As Rosa stole second, Burton took home on the throw to go up 1-0.
The Rams then scored four runs in each of the following three innings.
Kaleb Long drove in three runs by singling, hitting a sacrifice fly and hitting a triple. Burton, Russell-Myers and Simpson each added two RBIs apiece in the nightcap.
Trevor Martin belted his second homerun in three games, hitting a no-doubter over the left field wall.
Kyle Long pitched all five innings giving up just one run on two hits. Long struck out seven batters.
