Phillip Dunford

Coach Phillip Dunford brings over 25 years of experience in coaching and a lifetime of passion for sports to his role as Special Teams Coordinator and D-Line Coach at Bluefield University.

  • Concord University (1999) – B.A. in Physical Education, Health, and Special Education (LD/BD/MI)

Coaching Philosophy

Dunford believes in fostering a cohesive, team-first mentality, emphasizing that collective effort always trumps solo brilliance.

Athletic Achievements

  • High School (Big Creek High School):

    • Three-time All-Area Team member
    • W.Va. All-State defensive end as a senior
    • Four-year member of the baseball team, earning All-Sectional Team honors every year and All-State recognition as a senior

  • Collegiate (Concord University):

    • Started 24 games in football
    • Six-time Special Teams Player of the Week, two-time Special Teams Player of the Year, and Special Teams captain
    • Baseball: Two-time WVIAC All-Conference player; holds the record for triples in a season
    • Cheerleading: Four-year WVIAC All-Conference mascot

  • Other Roles:

    • Bullpen catcher for the Bristol White Sox and Princeton Devil Rays of the Appalachian League

Personal Life

Phillip is the proud son of George "Bucky" Dunford and Terry Dunford. He is a devoted father to his son Adyn and daughter Kimber.

Coach Dunford’s extensive experience, dedication to fostering teamwork, and passion for the game continue to make him an invaluable member of the Bluefield University coaching staff.
