Dewey Lusk is a seasoned coach and mentor, serving as the head football coach at Bluefield University since 2017. Under his leadership, the Rams have made significant strides, including a 6-5 record in his first season—surpassing the team’s win total from the previous five years combined. In 2018, he coached Bluefield’s first NAIA football All-American, DaMarcus Wimbush, and has continued to foster a culture of resilience and development both on and off the field.
Coach Lusk brings over 35 years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels. Before joining Bluefield, he was the offensive coordinator at Webber International University (2016) and served as head coach at UVa-Wise (2011-2015), where he guided the Highland Cavaliers through their transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II. During his tenure as associate head coach and offensive coordinator at UVa-Wise (2005-2010), his offenses were among the most dynamic in NAIA football, ranking second in the nation in pass efficiency and fourth in scoring offense in 2008.
Earlier in his career, Lusk spent 14 years at Emory & Henry College (1991-2005) as the offensive coordinator and head baseball coach. He earned the 1998 ODAC Baseball Coach of the Year honor and helped Emory & Henry achieve remarkable success in football and baseball. His coaching journey also includes roles at Abingdon High School, Gardner-Webb University, and Powell Valley High School, where he began his coaching career as a student assistant.
A native of Christiansburg, Virginia, Lusk graduated from Christiansburg High School in 1981. He holds a B.A. in History and Social Science from Emory & Henry College (1985), where he was a four-year letter winner in both football and baseball, and an M.A. in Physical Education from Gardner-Webb University (1987).
In 2022, Lusk was named AAC Football Co-Coach of the Year and was recognized as Bluefield University’s Coach of the Year for the 2022-2023 academic year. He is a proud member of the American Football Coaches Association's 35-Year Club.
Dewey Lusk is married to Mily Dover Lusk, his wife of 34 years, and together they have two grown children, Gil and Landi.Â
