BLUEFIELD, Va. — Bluefield University Athletics is proud to announce the three newest members of the Bluefield University Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
The 2026 class features football standout Sam Bennett, volleyball standout Camry McCroskey, and wrestling standout Luke Young.
Each member of this year's class etched their name into the Bluefield record books while representing the Rams with distinction on the field, court and in the classroom.
Sam Bennett — Football ('16)
Sam Bennett was one of the most accomplished running backs in Bluefield University football history, finishing his career with 1,582 rushing yards, good for third all-time in program history.
Bennett's standout season came in 2014, when he led the Rams with 883 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, a mark that ranks second in Bluefield history for rushing yards in a single season. He showcased his ability as a dynamic playmaker by surpassing 100 rushing yards in five different games that season.
His most memorable performance came against Union College, where Bennett rushed for an impressive 276 yards, establishing the Bluefield program record for most rushing yards in a single game.
Bennett's success extended beyond the football field. He earned recognition for maintaining the highest GPA in the Communications department, demonstrating his commitment to excellence in the classroom.
His accomplishments on the field ultimately earned him an opportunity to pursue football at the professional level, as Bennett participated in the 2016 NFL Draft, showcasing his talents on a national stage.
From his record-setting performances to his academic achievements and pursuit of a professional football career, Bennett left a lasting mark on Bluefield University and established himself as one of the premier players in Rams football history.
Camry McCroskey — Volleyball ('19)
Camry McCroskey was a standout setter for Bluefield volleyball and one of the most accomplished players in program history.
McCroskey finished her career as the all-time program leader in assists with 4,385, more than 1,000 assists ahead of the second-place mark. Her consistency and production as a setter were highlighted by back-to-back seasons with more than 1,100 assists, accomplishing the feat in both 2016 and 2017.
McCroskey also holds the Bluefield volleyball program's career record with 192 service aces, adding another mark to an already impressive career.
Her accomplishments earned recognition at both the conference and regional levels. McCroskey was named First Team All-Appalachian Athletic Conference in 2017 and 2018, while also earning NCCAA All-Mid-East Region honors in 2017.
McCroskey's record-setting career, leadership at the setter position and consistent production helped establish her as one of the most proficient players in Bluefield volleyball history.
Luke Young — Wrestling ('22)
Luke Young made history as a member of the Bluefield wrestling program, becoming the first Appalachian Athletic Conference wrestling champion in program history.
Competing at 184 pounds, Young captured the AAC individual championship and advanced to the NAIA National Championships, marking one of the earliest major achievements in the history of Bluefield wrestling.
Young also recorded the first pinfall victory in Bluefield wrestling history, accomplishing the historic feat at the 2018 Hokie Open.
His accomplishments extended beyond the wrestling mat as well. Young earned Academic All-American honors, demonstrating his commitment to excellence in the classroom while competing at the collegiate level.
Young's induction into the Hall of Fame is another historic milestone, as he becomes the first member of the Bluefield wrestling program inducted into the Bluefield University Athletics Hall of Fame.
The 2026 Bluefield University Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 17, in Harman Chapel, with the ceremony time to be announced.
The Class of 2026 will also be recognized during the Bluefield football team's Homecoming matchup against Reinhardt University on Saturday, October 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
