BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Bluefield Rams earned a doubleheader sweep over Carolina on Tuesday at Bowen Field, taking Game One 9–2 before securing a 6–2 victory in the nightcap.
Game One: Bluefield 9 – Carolina 2
BU jumped out early and never looked back in the opener.
The Rams struck in the first inning as Chris Johnson doubled home Jordan Ramsey before Cody Crafton added a sacrifice fly to make it 2–0. Johnson continued his big day in the third inning, launching a two-run home run to extend the lead to 4–1.
Bluefield broke the game open in the fourth, plating three runs behind a two-RBI double from Johnson and a sacrifice fly from Michael Royston to push the advantage to 7–1. The Rams added two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Johnson led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, driving in five runs with a home run and two doubles. Ramsey scored three runs, while Crafton and Royston each drove in a pair as BU totaled eight hits.
On the mound, Gabriel Delvalle earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief. Ryan Cowell and Jaden Rose combined for three innings before Brent Avery closed out the final two frames.
Game Two: Bluefield 6 – Carolina 2
BU carried its momentum into game two, using a big second inning and strong pitching to complete the sweep.
After Carolina opened the scoring in the first, Bluefield responded in the second. Jordan Ramsey delivered a two-RBI single, and Sean Cherry followed with an RBI knock to give BU a 4–1 lead.
Carolina trimmed the deficit to 4–2 in the fifth, but the Rams answered in the sixth. Ramsey doubled home a run, and Michael Royston followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 6–2.
Ramsey led the offense with two hits and three RBIs, while Royston added two hits and an RBI. Chris Johnson, Cherry, and Nick Stergiou each contributed hits as BU finished with 10 in the game.
Noah Burtner earned the win in relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Raymond Smith started, and Jaden Rose and Ryan McDaniel also contributed on the mound.
The Rams return to action Friday when they travel to face No. 9 Tennessee Wesleyan for game one of a three-game set, with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
