WINCHESTER, Va. – The Bluefield University men's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought five-set match Thursday evening at Shenandoah, falling 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 25-22, 16-14).
With the loss, the Rams move to 8-8 on the season.
Bluefield put together one of its strongest offensive performances of the year, totaling 71 kills while hitting .291 as a team. The Rams opened the match by taking the first set behind a .325 hitting percentage and later forced a decisive fifth set by claiming the fourth, 25-22.
Mason Lloyd delivered a historic performance, recording a career-high 28 kills while adding five service aces to tie his career mark. He also chipped in eight digs and four total blocks in a dominant all-around effort.
Mamadou Dieng was highly efficient in the middle, finishing with 13 kills on a .480 hitting percentage, while Kemani Riley added eight kills and hit .333. Kaden Porter also contributed nine kills in the balanced offensive attack.
Setter Benedict Somes orchestrated the offense with 47 assists and added two service aces and 11 digs to anchor the Rams on both sides of the ball.
Defensively, BU totaled 51 digs, with Zach Malavite leading the way with nine. Lloyd added eight digs, while Jonathon Rudder contributed six.
Despite the strong showing, Shenandoah edged out the final set, 16-14, to secure the win.
Bluefield looks to bounce back Friday when the Rams host Reinhardt at 3 p.m. inside the Dome.
