BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Bluefield University men's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw with Johnson.Saturday afternoon at the East River Complex in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.
With the result, the Rams move to 1-7-1 overall and 0-4-1 in AAC competition.
Bluefield got off to a strong start, striking first in the 17th minute when Adan Chavez found the back of the net to give the Rams the early lead. The visitors managed to even the score before halftime, and the match entered the break level at 1-1.
The Royals pulled ahead just three minutes into the second half to make it 2-1, but Bluefield wasted little time answering back. In the 55th minute, Isai Molina Acevedo delivered the equalizer with a well-placed finish, knotting the score at 2-2.
The remainder of the match featured chances for both teams, but neither could find the game-winner. Bluefield generated 10 total shots, seven of which were on target, while battling through a physical contest.
Goalkeeper Canaan Newman turned in a strong performance between the posts, recording seven saves while facing 23 total shots. Alongside Chavez and Molina Acevedo's scoring efforts, Sebastian Armijos and Juan Soto were active in the attack, each registering multiple shots on goal to keep pressure on the Johnson defense.
Bluefield will return to AAC action October 1, traveling to Bryan College for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
