Kingsport, Tenn. – The Bluefield University Rams capped off a memorable season with a hard-fought battle in the Appalachian Athletic Conference semifinals, falling to top-seeded St. Thomas (FL) in straight sets (23-25, 17-25, 21-25) on Friday afternoon. Despite the loss, the Rams left it all on the court, highlighted by a standout performance from Kyle Pietrzak, who was named to the AAC All-Tournament Team.
Pietrzak was a force for the Rams throughout the match, registering 11 kills, 4 digs, 3 service aces, and 2 blocks to lead Bluefield's effort. He finished the season as one of the team's most consistent and impactful players, and his selection to the All-Tournament Team reflects that leadership and determination.
Also turning in strong performances were Mason Lloyd and Dakari Williams, who each added 11 kills of their own. Setter Benedict Somes facilitated the offense with 33 assists and 6 digs, while Colby Mutter anchored the back row with 12 digs.
Though the Rams couldn't overcome a strong and disciplined St. Thomas squad, they battled until the very end and showed the heart and grit that defined their season.
Head coach Kevin John reflected proudly on his team's performance and season overall.
"The team came together and gave everything they had and even though we came up a little short, they have so much to be proud of. I know I am proud of them. It was a great season," John said.
Bluefield finishes the season with an overall record of 15-11, including an 8-5 mark in AAC play – a testament to the growth, resilience, and spirit of a team that has laid a strong foundation for future success.
