Bluefield, VA – March 25, 2025
The Bluefield University Rams showcased heart, hustle, and offensive firepower during a hard-fought home doubleheader against Carolina (N.C.), walking off with a 3-2 extra-inning victory in game one before falling 11-6 in the second matchup. The split highlighted both the Rams' growing momentum and individual standout performances as they continue to build this season.
Game One: Extra-Inning Walk-Off Sparks Energy
Bluefield opened the day with a thrilling 3-2 win in extra innings. Senior pitcher Hallie Cox was electric in the circle, tossing a complete 9-inning game while allowing just 2 earned runs, striking out 8, and keeping Carolina scoreless in the final five frames. Her command under pressure was key in securing the Rams' fourth win of the season.
Offensively, Chloe Dillow led the way with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double, a walk, and a run scored. Kenidy Harris added two hits and drove in a run, while Madison Blankenship, Lauren Jackson, and Chara Wootten each chipped in with key defensive plays to preserve the tie through regulation.
Bluefield finished with 6 hits and 2 RBIs, capitalizing on Carolina's defensive miscues and stranding only 3 runners on base. Defensively, the Rams recorded 21 putouts and turned a clutch double play to keep Carolina off the board late in the game.
Game Two: Bats Stay Hot Despite Late Surge by Carolina
In game two, Bluefield's offense came out firing again, collecting 12 hits and scoring six runs — including four in a big third inning. Leading the charge was junior Alexis McDuffie, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI, one run scored, and a stolen base from the leadoff spot.
Kenidy Harris continued her dominance at the plate with a 3-for-4 day, belting a two-run home run, scoring twice, and driving in two RBIs. Chara Wootten contributed with a 2-for-4 line, including a double and an RBI.
Senior Jenna Atwell came off the bench with a pinch-hit single in the sixth, showing the Rams' depth at the plate.
On the basepaths, Bluefield was aggressive and effective, swiping two bases to apply pressure on the Carolina defense.
Pitcher Ali Glover went the distance, pitching all 7.0 innings and allowing 11 runs (9 earned) on 15 hits with one strikeout. Despite the result, she kept the Rams in the game through multiple rallies and faced 40 total batters while throwing 91 pitches (67 strikes).
The rams will turn around and face their next matchup Thursday at home vs. Johnson Unviersity.
