WALESKA, Ga. – The Bluefield Rams put up a valiant effort on the road against Reinhardt University on Saturday, taking the match to a decisive fifth set before narrowly falling to the Eagles. Despite the 3-2 loss, the Rams showcased determination, strong teamwork, and individual brilliance in a contest filled with thrilling rallies and standout performances.
The Rams came out strong, securing the first set 26-24 behind powerful attacks from Dakari Williams and General Smith. Benedict Somes orchestrated the offense with precision, tallying an impressive 46 assists throughout the match, ensuring his teammates had plenty of scoring opportunities. Bluefield dropped the second set 11-25 but responded with grit in the third, pushing Reinhardt to the limit before falling 24-26.
Refusing to back down, Bluefield delivered an inspired performance in the fourth set, edging out the Eagles 26-24 to force a decisive fifth frame. Williams led the team with 19 kills, while General Smith contributed 11 kills of his own. Mason Lloyd added 11 kills and three service aces to keep the Rams competitive. Richard Cisneros anchored the defense with seven blocks, while Kyle Pietrzak also added six blocks to bolster Bluefield's front-line defense. Colby Mutter made a game-high 20 digs to keep plays alive.
Despite their best efforts, Bluefield came up just short in the final set, falling 9-15. The loss moves the Rams to a 12-7 overall record and 7-2 in conference play.
Bluefield will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue their pursuit of postseason success. With continued resilience and effort, the Rams remain a force to be reckoned with in conference play.
