Athens, TN. -The Bluefield Rams put together a determined effort in a doubleheader against Tennessee Wesleyan, showcasing strong pitching and timely hitting, but ultimately fell just short in both games. The Rams battled through a tough 1-0 loss in Game 1 before pushing Game 2 to extra innings, where they were edged out 5-4.
Game 1: Strong Pitching Effort Comes Up Just Short
The Rams delivered an outstanding defensive performance in the series opener, with pitcher Hallie Cox keeping Tennessee Wesleyan's offense in check. Cox tossed six impressive innings, allowing only one run on four hits.
Bluefield's defense was sharp behind Cox, with standout plays from third baseman Chara Wootten and catcher Chloe Dillow keeping the game within reach. However, Tennessee Wesleyan's B. Phillips put together a dominant pitching performance, striking out 11 while allowing just one hit to the Rams, a fourth-inning single by Dillow.
Despite the narrow loss, Bluefield geared up for another game.Â
Game 2: Rams' Offense Breaks Through in Extra-Inning Thriller
Determined to bounce back, the Rams came out swinging in Game 2. Bluefield struck early, plating two runs in the first inning and adding two more in the fifth. Delana Loflin led the charge with a three-hit performance, while Isabella Smith drove in three runs to power the Rams' offense.
Pitcher Ali Glover put in a gutsy effort in the circle, battling through seven innings and keeping the Bulldogs' hitters off balance. Bluefield played with resilience, but Tennessee Wesleyan managed to tie the game in the seventh and secure a walk-off win in the eighth.
Looking Ahead
Bluefield will take the positives from this series as they continue conference play. With solid pitching, improving offense, and a fighting spirit, the Rams are poised to turn close games into victories as the season progresses.
