LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Bluefield University women's basketball opened its 2025–26 season on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 62–42 to Georgia Gwinnett College at the Convocation Center.
The Rams  (0-1) started strong, trading baskets early and taking a 2–0 lead on a layup from Ashanti Northcross less than a minute in. BU continued to battle in the opening period, getting buckets from Elle Gunter and Gabriela Rosado, along with two free throws from Charli Wynn to stay within a possession. A late jumper from Wynn tied the game at 10 before a Georgia Gwinnett (1-0) three-pointer in the closing seconds gave the Grizzlies a narrow 13–11 lead after one.
Georgia Gwinnett used a 10–2 run in the second quarter to create separation, and despite a pair of inside scores from Northcross, the Rams trailed 33–17 at halftime. Bluefield responded with its best stretch of the afternoon in the third period, outscoring the Grizzlies 16–17 while shooting 55 percent from the field. Maddie Day sparked the charge with two three-pointers in a span of two minutes, including one off an assist from Wynn to cut the deficit to 11. Rosado added back-to-back layups and a block that energized the Rams before Georgia Gwinnett closed the quarter up 50–33.
BU continued to compete through the final period, with Northcross and Rosado combining for seven points in the frame. Abby O'Quinn added a late layup to bring the Rams within 19 in the closing minutes.
Northcross led the way with 10 points and four rebounds, while Rosado added nine points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Day finished with eight points and two steals, and Wynn filled the stat sheet with four points, five assists, and two steals.
