Columbia, SC – Bluefield University's men's soccer team experienced a tough road loss, falling 6-2 to Columbia International University (CIU) on Saturday.
The Rams started the game with solid defensive efforts, with goalkeeper
Justus Repschlaeger making key saves early on. Despite his efforts, CIU struck first, with Noe Limas scoring in the 15th minute off an assist from Marlon Williams.
Bluefield responded positively, and
Cameron Richter brought the Rams back into the game with a goal in the 42nd minute, thanks to a setup by
Enrique Santamaria-Benito. This goal briefly reduced the deficit to 2-1 before halftime.
In the second half, CIU pulled away with additional goals. Florian Baumgaertner scored in the 53rd minute, and Victor Gonzalez added another in the 55th minute, extending CIU's lead. The Rams made several tactical adjustments, including substitutions, but struggled to regain momentum. Bluefield managed to find the net once more, with Richter completing his brace in the 85th minute, but it wasn't enough to overturn CIU's advantage.
The Rams will look to rebound as they head into their next match against Union College on September 11th, with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
