Bluefield, VA – Director of Athletics Corey Mullins announced the hire of Mark White to lead the Cross Country and Track and Field Programs.

"I can't express how excited I am to have coach White join the Bluefield family," said Corey Mullins. "His experience speaks for itself.  He has successfully built a championship-level program at Ferrum and is well respected in the region as a recruiter, relationship builder, and tactician when it comes to Track and Field/ Cross Country.  His core values align with the program we want to build and the impact we want to make in this community.  I can't wait to see what the future holds for this program."

Mark White brings experience to Bluefield University that speaks for itself. In 2019, White successfully started the Track & Field program at Ferrum College. Since then he has achieved numerous conference medalists in the highly competitive ODAC. He has also sent two athletes to the NCAA D3 national meet.

Prior to his time at Ferrum, Mark served at Radford University as the assistant Track & Field Coach for 9 years amassing a number of Big South Conference individual event titles. He coached several USA Junior National Championship qualifiers, as well as USA National Championship qualifiers, a two-time All-American and an athlete who won the silver medal for the United States in the 2014 NACAC Championships in Canada. White served dual roles at Radford, as recruiting coordinator and overseeing middle distance, sprints, relays and hurdles. He is USA Track & Field Level Two certified in combined events.

"I am very excited to start the process of building a quality track and field and cross-country program at Bluefield," said Mike White. "I am thankful to the administration at BU, and I look forward to working with them to build a program that everyone can be proud of. A program that will be competitive not only in the AAC but also nationally."

White taught and coached at Middlesex High School in Saluda, Virginia, for 11 years. During that time, he filled a variety of athletics capacities, including six years as the school's Athletics Director. He also served as the Head Football Coach and Head Track & Field Coach, starting the indoor track program. Under his guidance, the Middlesex boys track and field program won three Tidewater District Championships, the 2006 Region A Championship and a state runner-up finish in 2006. White earned three Tidewater District Coach of the Year honors and was named Region A Coach of the Year in 2006.

White received his bachelor's degree in 1996 from Ferrum College, where he played baseball for four years under Naff from 1991-95. He also served a year as an Assistant Coach under Naff in 1996. White earned his master's degree from Ohio University in 2006. He and his wife Maggie, who serves as the Head Softball Coach at Bluefield University, reside in nearby Christiansburg, Virginia, with daughters Abigail who attends the U.S. Naval Academy and Annabelle who attends Giles High School.
