BLUEFIELD – The Reinhardt University Eagles, 17-1 overall, 6-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and receiving votes in the latest NAIA Men's Volleyball Poll landed at the Dome Gymnasium for a Saturday afternoon match against the Bluefield University Rams. The Rams battled, but in the end, it was the Eagles flying back to Georgia with a 3-0 win.
INSIDE THE MATCH
- Cesar Bitanga's service ace gave the Rams an early 3-1 lead. BU extended its lead to five points early in the first set. The Eagles went on a 13-1 run to take command in the set. After trailing 9-4, Reinhardt won set one 25-16.
- Colby Mutter opened set two with a service ace to put the first point on the board for the Rams. The Eagles opened a five-point lead which they maintained until the Rams rallied and closed to within two at 15-13. Benedict Somes served up an ace to keep BU within two at 18-16. Bluefield drew closer at 19-18 but could not get any closer and RU won set two 25-19.
- At the outset of set three the teams battled for each point before Reinhardt built a seven-point lead, 14-7. RU won the set 25-13 and took the match 3-0.
