Rams split with B-State in season debut

BLUEFIELD – Hallie Cox tossed a three hitter to help lead the Bluefield University Rams past the Bluefield State University Big Blue in game two of the Rams season-opening doubleheader, Tuesday afternoon at Graham Rec Park. The Rams took game two 8-1 after falling to the Big Blue 18-5 in the opener. The win was the first for first at BU for new coach Maggie White.
GAME TWO

INSIDE THE GAME
  • B-State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth playing small ball and scoring on a ground out.
  • BU knotted the game in the bottom of the inning. Brooklynn Schwartz singled and scored on a triple by Breyana Ellet.
  • The Rams took the lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Gianna Sloan-Lebron.
  • Bluefield exploded for six runs in the fifth, the big hit a three-run homer by Kaylee Hughes.
LEADERS
  • Cox pitched seven innings, allowed three hits and struck out three to gain the win.
  • Kenidy Harris was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Sloan-Lebron and Schwartz were both 2-for-4.
  • Hannah Hayes was 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

  • Bluefield State scored two in the top of the first and never trailed.
  • The Big Blue scored in five of the game's six innings.
  • BSU collected 22 hits off BU pitchers.

  • Jenna Atwell and Sloan-Lebron each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
