Bluefield Basketball Prevails in Intense Conference Matchup

The Bluefield University men's basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat Kentucky Christian University 77-72 on Saturday night. Both teams entered tonight's matchup with a single win in the conference, and looking to add a second.

The game remained close throughout the first half, leaving Bluefield with a one-point lead at halftime (35-34). Once play resumed, the Rams came out with a new offensive and defensive intensity that was led by Elijah White and Quantavis McKinney. The star duo was able to will their team to the finish line, securing a 77-72 victory over the Knights.

·         Quantavis McKinney: 13 points, 11 rebounds

·         Donavon Martin: 7 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks

With this win, the Rams improved to 2-3 in the conference and 2-6 on the season.

Head Coach Richard Morgan talked about the keys to tonight's crucial conference win.

"Our game plan was to battle until the end of the game. We knew it was going to be a war and it lived up to the hype," Morgan said.

Bluefield played confidently through their defensive effort, out rebounding KCU 44-32 and three players with at least two blocks.

"Anytime you can win a close game it makes your team more confident in their performance," Morgan added.

After locking in another win, Coach Morgan and the Rams are looking ahead to their next conference matchup against Tennessee Wesleyan University.

"We cannot settle for three's [against TWU] and instead drive downhill looking for a teammate or making a positive play for yourself," Morgan said. "We must stay healthy for the remainder of the season! Go Rams."

Bluefield is back in action against TWU December 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Dome Gymnasium, as they look for a final conference win going into the holiday break.
