Waleska, GA – The Bluefield men's soccer team faced the Reinhardt Eagles on Saturday, finishing the match in a hard-fought 1-1 tie. The Eagles struck first, scoring within the first 20 minutes of the game. However, the Rams held them to that single goal for the remainder of the match.
With just six minutes left, Bluefield equalized with a goal from Juan Soto, assisted by Nathan Thompson. The Rams showcased their offensive pressure throughout the match, taking 19 shots, with contributions from Louis Marker, Ricardo Herrera, Luis Diaz, Nathan Thompson, and Cameron Richter. They also earned seven corner kicks and saw a solid defensive effort, including 17 saves by goalkeeper Justus Repschlaeger.
Head Coach Gabe Bakman praised his team, stating, "Guys fought till the last second; it was a well-deserved tie. We created good chances where we could've deserved the win, but that's soccer. Sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesn't; the key is to always keep fighting, and they did! I could not be more proud of their overall performance, and it's proof that we're headed in the right direction with the program."
With this result, the Rams improved their record to 3-7-2 overall and 2-6-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Reinhardt now stands at 4-7-4 overall and 2-4-3 in conference play.
The Rams will look to build on this momentum when they return home on October 23rd, taking on Columbia College at 4 PM at the East River Soccer Complex. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team for Senior Night!
