BLUEFIELD – Johnny Medina hit three home runs and knocked in six runs to lead the Bluefield University Rams to a 14-9 non-conference win over the University of Rio Grande Red Storm, Tuesday afternoon at Bowen Field.
The Rams broke into the scoring column in the bottom of the first when Medina smacked his first long ball of the game. The Rams added four runs in the third when David Meech, Briley Harlan, and Brady Joslyn all brought home runs with hits. Medina added his second two-run shot in the fifth to put BU ahead 8-3. Rio plated four runs in the sixth to pull to within a run of tying the game. Medina hit his third three-run home run of the game in the eighth to solidify the Bluefield victory.
Medina was 3-for-3 with six runs batted in and he scored four runs. Joslyn was 3-for-4 with three RBI, and Meech was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs knocked in and he scored three times. Ethan Martinez, the second of six BU pitchers worked the fifth inning to get the pitching victory.
The Rams (14-19) return to AAC play this weekend with a three-game series at St. Andrews.
